BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY

Welcome to a world where precious moments and timeless memories come to life through birth photography. Are you ready to celebrate the joy of your newborn’s arrival and treasure those first moments forever?

As a registered SABPA member, I have received specialized training to honor the trust and privacy involved in such a significant event. I approach birth photography with professionalism, respect, and sensitivity to ensure you feel supported and valued throughout the experience.

Capturing the journey of childbirth through photography preserves memories in a meaningful and beautiful way. My goal is to create images that reflect the emotions, strength, and love that define this miraculous event.

Labour and birth bring forth a breathtaking display of life’s wonder. Each contraction reveals a mother’s strength and the unwavering support of loved ones. As the baby enters the world, their first cries signal new beginnings and the boundless potential of life. In that profound moment, the universe seems to whisper the secrets of eternity, weaving generations past, present, and future into the delicate embrace of life’s timeless dance.

During labour and delivery, I maintain a calm and non-intrusive presence. I ensure that my work does not disrupt the birthing experience but instead documents your unique birth story with care and respect. I recognize the deeply private and sacred nature of giving birth and focus solely on preserving your memories without projecting opinions, offering medical advice, or imposing personal experiences.

Before the session, I work with you to obtain permission from the necessary healthcare professionals and hospitals, ensuring everything is coordinated for a seamless experience.

Commonly asked questions about Birth Photography and Videography:

Question:

Which areas do you cover?

Answer:

I am based in Fourways so any birthing centre within a 20km range is doable.

Question:

Won’t it be awkward for you and the parents to be photographing the labour and the birth in this special moment between Mother and Father?

Answer:

I recognise that the experience of giving birth is private and sacred. I will not interrupt that, but will document the story for the family’s memories without giving my opinions or medical advice or project my own feelings / experiences about birth before, during or after procedures. I will not ask anyone to re-enact a moment, pose a baby in any way without permission or ask any of the medical staff to act in a certain way.

Question:

What is a Fresh 48?

Answer:

A Fresh 48 takes place in the first 48 hours of babies life at the place of birth.  (Hospital or Clinic, Home, Birthing Centre).   This is a session of unposed images that capture the interactions between you and your baby during those quiet moments, as well as the first feedings, first diaper changes, and the emotional first family meetings of siblings or grandparents. I also capture little details like toe nails, hands, feet, belly buttons, and baby snuggled up in the hospital bassinet.

The first hours and days after delivery often pass so quickly and baby changes so quickly in a matter of days. The Fresh 48 Newborn Photo Session is perfect for remembering how baby looked in those first few hours.

A Fresh 48 is also offered as a standalone session and does not have to be included with the Birth Story session.

I will capture photos and a short video.

Question:

Do you publish the photos on the internet?

Answer:

I will honour the clients right to privacy and will not publish images without their consent.

Question:

Do you take photos of my nudity while giving birth?

Answer:

I avoid explicit nudity unless the client has asked otherwise and those images remain for their private use.

Question:

How do I know if you are allowed to photograph the birth at my chosen birthplace?

Answer:

Permission for my presence must be obtained from the relevant health care professionals and hospitals. I will provide you with the necessary forms that need to be signed by all concerned.
